More Non-knitting

All the fuss about Madonna adopting a young African boy has got me thinking some very cynical thoughts. Apart from the general criticism of celebrities seemingly being able to circumvent the rules, I have very mixed feelings about removing children from their cultural heritage. Especially in this case where the boy has a living parent. If Madonna was so concerned about this child in particular why didn't she help the father so he was able to support his child. If she really wanted one of her own, sadly due to conditions over much of Africa there are plenty of other children without family members left.

Anyway, the fuss has brought to mind the time Madonna wanted to bring a Chihuahua into her family. She (or her rep) contacted my uncle in London who breeds and shows them and sent a limo(!) around to collect the dog. After a weekend spent with my uncle's dog and one from another breeder she decided she preferred the other one, and sent my uncle's back in another limo. Although he never met Madonna in person she did send him an autographed photo. He also got a couple of lines mention in one of those Woman's Day/New Idea magazines, but they spelt his name wrong. Now this was more than 10 years ago, and she has shown no indication of comparing African orphans like chihuahua's, but it does strike me that the rules are different for rich people.

Lazy Blog Post

How lazy is this Post? (or should the question be how lazy is this Blogger?)
  • I am too lazy to come up with a more interesting title
  • I was too lazy to write this post on the weekend after my computer had one little freeze.
  • I have two recent Finished Objects, but I have been too lazy to take photos of them
  • Speaking of Finished Objects, I have been taking the two of them to wear at work (one of the few benefits of an over air-conditioned office is that I can wear wool jumpers even in summer). Despite the fact I am calling them Finished Objects, I have noticed that both of them have several loose ends and you guessed it, I am too lazy to trim them.

Hmm, now I'm thinking I had better go do something productive, but laziness can't be all be bad. What if they had a war and everyone was too lazy to turn up!

High class knits

Readers of various knitting blogs may remember a few months ago, one keen knitter's attempt to replicate the Salvatore Ferragamo knitted bag. Kate from knitlit created the fake-a-gamo to replicate the US$1650 bag. Well the original SF bag has arrived in Australia. Last time I was at the Queen Victoria Building shopping centre, my eyes were instantly drawn to the catalogue cover.

Personally, I don't find the bag particularly attractive (and definitely not worth A$2670), but it is interesting to see knitted items be 'fashionable'.
